The Symrise Marketing team attended the 2017 Summer Fancy Food Show in New York City and identified the latest food and beverage innovations from thousands of exhibitors who participated. After narrowing down these exciting innovations, we published the Symrise Top 12 Trends from the Show right here on in-sight. One trend we highlighted this year was functional beverages.
We definitely saw an increase in the number of new healthy products as we walked up and down the aisles. Health and wellness has gained a great deal of momentum in the past few years as Millennials, Baby Boomers and even Generation Z have a more health conscious mindset. In fact, this health trend appears to be a driving force behind what retailers displayed during this year’s event with a strong focus on functional beverages. These types of beverages include RTD teas, CSDs, waters, coffee, juices and more. Consumers are interested in seeing beverages with vitamins, minerals, protein, probiotics and other functional ingredients. Weight loss, stress relief and relaxation, revitalization, skin rejuvenation and naturalness are some of the benefits consumers are seeking when drinking these popular functional beverages.
A few of the functional beverages spotted at this year’s Summer Fancy Food Show include iQ Juice, All Beauty and LifeAid. iQ juice is definitely doing something right with it’ s positioning. According to Mintel, there are several functional attributes that are appealing to US juice consumers - 46% would like added health benefits, 30% energy boosting, 24% probiotic, 21% anti-inflammatory, 20% mood boosting and 15% beauty-enhancing. iQ juices are functional and flavorful beverages that support these common health concerns. Not only does it taste good, but it’s loaded with antioxidants that helps to nourish the body and mind. They have a range of products including Memory, Cleanse, Fat Burner, Rise Up, Detox, and Immunity. Each variant contains specific ingredients to help individual concerns. For instance, Detox contains pomegranate, beet and lemon while Rise Up consists of orange, strawberry, white grape, guarana and B12.
All Beauty, a skincare drink, helps nourish and hydrate with added skin benefits. Each bottle has 2 glasses of water, 8 SkinVitamins® and 7 additional SkinNutrients®, including antioxidants and electrolytes. To top it off, it’s zero calories, zero sugar! Flavors include pomegranate rose, cucumber aloe and strawberry acai. With all this talk about beauty from within, you definitely want to give this functional beverage a try.
LifeAid is another interesting find at this year’s show. They carry a line of functional beverages that tailored to fit your lifestyle. Whether you need the FitAid Recovery after an intense workout, the PartyAid Restore to replenish your body after a night out or the TravelAid Immunity packed with vitamins and minerals to get your immune system up and running, LifeAid offers a range of beverages to quench your thirst and your needs.
As this functional beverage trend continues to grow, we will see more and more of these beverages hitting the market. Guayusa Tea with Turmeric, Just Chill and Beetology Beet and Berry Juice are just a few of the beverages we see popping up in retail.
Functional beverages will continue to be a driving force in the beverage arena. Consumers of all ages are looking to find ways to live a healthy and more balanced lifestyle. It becomes so much easier to do when the beverages they are consuming taste great and are great for them!
