Embrace Green!

What do you think of when you think of the color green?  Some say nature, money, or even the phrase “green with envy.”

I think of all the green vegetables, because I am a vegetarian and I crave them daily.

All these thoughts and more are because Pantone has announced the color of the year, Green, or rather Pantone 15-0343 “Greenery.”

Did you know in a ranking of color favorites, that the color Green is second only to the number one color Blue?  We see green everywhere, everyday.

Green is also a calming, stress relieving color and in contrast, green can be invigorating, improving reading habits and inspiring creativity.  No wonder our mothers say “Get outside and breathe some fresh air!” (Did she also know that nature’s natural colors, blue and green would make us feel good?)

I could expand on the green facts until the cows come home, but the question is “How do we embrace green?”

Big topics that reference a green lifestyle include recycling, sustainability, farm to table and supporting local business.   At the forefront of consumer’s thoughts is to live, research and purchase ingredients, products and packaging that have little impact on the environment so as to offset their carbon footprint.  According to Forbes more than 50% of Millennials make an effort to buy products from companies that support the causes they care about.

One of the newest ways to embrace green is foraging.  There are now workshops, events and even vacation spots that host foraging experiences.  Taking wild food walks to discover what the earth provides followed by a cooking experience to enjoy your foraged ingredients.

From a design perspective, over the last two years I have noticed home decor trends moving towards green statement walls, foliage inspired wallpapers and gorgeous green plant arrangements in corners and window seals.  Either everyone owns or wants a succulent right?

The 2017 fashion runways are full of all shades of green, especially olive tones, for both men and women. The recent Christian Dior Spring 2017 Haute Couture show was held in a faux garden of green grass and moss.  Models wore extravagant floral crowns and the accessories featured butterflies, dragonflies and snakes.

The ideas are endless and the inspiration is palpable when it comes to the color green.  You can live green, wear green, decorate green and eat green.  The shades of green are vast as well so use Pantone’s “Greenery” as a starting point.

Did you know that the color green symbolizes balance, prosperity, freshness and new beginnings?  This color is the best color for right now.  Time to move onto greener pastures.  Thanks Pantone.
