New Year’s resolutions are nothing new. Many people view the turning of the calendar year as a chance to reboot and set new goals, especially following the downtime and decadence of the holidays, which often involve a lax attitude toward eating, drinking, and exercise.
According to a Consumer Food Insights survey, 72% of respondents planning to make dietary changes were motivated by improving health, while 48% were interested in losing weight.
Many emphasized increasing consumption of water, fruits, vegetables, and plant-based proteins while reducing consumption of alcohol, soft drinks, desserts, candy, and salty snacks.
It should come as no surprise that brands looking to meet consumer needs view this time of year as a prime opportunity to offer options for clean eating, as well as detoxification.
With solutions like juice cleanses, detox supplements, and healthy meal delivery services, brands looking to shore up lagging post-holiday sales might want to consider the consumer demand for health-centric goods in the new year.
Juice Cleanses
There are arguments for and against juice cleanses, but that doesn’t change the fact that there are several options available to consumers.
Most are meant to be used for a short time to clear out the gut or quickly lose a few pounds, and they tend to involve consuming nothing but fruit/veggie juices, typically for a few days and no more than a couple of weeks.
Raw Generation touts “raw nutrition” and “real results” for consumers, using raw plants for nebulous outcomes like detoxing, resetting to a healthier lifestyle, or losing weight fast. They offer a range of six juice flavors packaged with everything consumers need for a Skinny Cleanse, Low Sugar Detox Cleanse, and more.
The weight loss messaging around this brand may be problematic for some, but other brands, like Suja Organic, take a different approach.
This cold-pressed juice brand taps into the growing functional food space with a wide range of juice flavors geared toward immunity, gut health, and so on, as well as bundles designed for detox and cleansing purposes. A range of wellness shots, protein drinks, and superfood greens powders are also available.

Detox Supplements
Supplements are tricky for both brands and consumers to navigate, with no FDA approval system in place and the onus on manufacturers to live up to their word concerning ingredients and claims.
In addition to offering juice cleanses, Raw Generation has Metabolism Boost, a supplement claiming to supercharge weight loss with the pulp from cold-pressed fruits and veggies delivering over 2,000mg of essential vitamins, minerals, enzymes, and antioxidants.
Then there are products like Legalon, which uses milk thistle extract (an ingredient common in naturopathic medicine) to ostensibly support healthy liver function and aid in detoxification.
Though backed by clinical studies, this product is still careful not to promise anything too specific, listing additional benefits like relieving weariness and assisting with inflammation.

Healthy and Organic Meal Deliveries
Meal delivery services are a convenient option for many households, and there are several prominent choices in the health marketplace. Blue Apron, Territory Foods, and Snap Kitchen are among the best-known for healthy, fresh, and diet-specific food delivery.
For organic fare, Green Chef, Trifecta Nutrition, and Daily Harvest offer options for weight loss and alternative diets, with benefits like sustainable sourcing and high-quality ingredients.
Borrowing From Brands That Do It Right
Consumers looking to improve their health in the new year are in a vulnerable spot, and the brands offering the best detox and health-focused solutions aren’t trying to take advantage of the situation.
If you want to keep consumers coming back for more, long after the initial motivation of New Year’s resolutions has faded, providing beneficial products and scientifically-backed benefits is a good basis for positive experiences and brand loyalty.
