Floral, herbal and botanical flavors have proved to be a big hit in many food and beverage categories and have grown year over year. Whether it be because millennials are looking for more artisanal and crafted products with an elevated flavor profile or the rise of the health and wellness movement, these flavors are capturing headlines and being used more and more.

This year Rose takes one of the top prizes at the 2017 Summer Fancy Food Show in New York City. In fact, we recently published the Symrise Top 12 Trends from the 2017 Summer Fancy Food Show right here on in-sight. The Symrise Marketing team attended the show in New York City and analyzed all of the product offerings, eventually synthesizing them down into twelve trends that permeated the show.

Rose is a trend that brings an air of elegance to the 12 trend lineup along with an almost mythical story line that Rose is said to have been used for centuries in cuisine and skin care as the ultimate fountain of youth. It has a rich cultural history with a first mention of rose water dating back to the 9th century. Rose is very popular in the Middle East but also used in India as well as Southeast Asian countries like Malaysia and Singapore.

Two products in particular grabbed our attention in the beverage category:

H2rOse is a specialty beverage uniquely made of rose water, saffron and other natural ingredients with flavor varieties that incorporate Mango, Wild Berry, Apple and Peach. Their product description indicates it was originally the beverage of choice for royalty but made its way to the masses around the world.

Not only does it smell beautiful, it claims to have proven therapeutic benefits and purifies the body thanks to flavonoids, tannins and other essential vitamins it contains (e.g. A, C, D, E and B3). I think my favorite benefits of all are its claims to be a mood enhancer, stress reliever and improves the quality of your sleep…sign me up.

Blossom Water is the infusion of water and fruit with flower essences. The water has a fruit base flavor profile with a floral signature - think Lemon Rose, Grapefruit Lilac, Plum Jasmine or Pomegranate Geranium. Their product description says it all: bright, thirst-quenching fruit upfront – delicate floral note finish - all natural essence water.
